Re: Harold Miller Jr Ursula Rose marie Briand
Obituary
Harold Miller Jr., a longtime resident of Hudson and Hampton, NH died at the Fairview Nursing Home on March 20, 2017.He was born in Nashua on September 8, 1923, a son of the late Harold and Grace (Dutton) Miller.
Mr. Miller was the husband of Ursula (Briand) Miller, whom he married on May 22, 1948 and celebrated over 68 years of marriage.
Harold was very proud of his service to his nation. Like many of the men and women who served during World War II, he did not often talk of his feats while in uniform. However, late in life he recalled, “I went off to war with a high school diploma in one hand and a carbine in the other. I simply did my job.” It was with some sadness, prior to his death, that Harold contemplated he likely would be the last of his squad to pass. His fondest memories were of his service with Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 387th Regiment, 97th Infantry Division. In the years following the war he enjoyed the comradery of his army buddies at reunions.
After the war, Harold trained in Boston to become an electrician and subsequently worked as a Journeyman Electrician. He eventually became a Master Electrician and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers AFL-CIO. He was a co-owner of Rowell and Miller Electrical Contractors Inc. in Hudson, NH working on a number of large projects in Southern New Hampshire. He was a member of the Hudson, New Hampshire Chamber of Commerce servicing for a period of time as its Secretary. He was active volunteer in the Hudson community and served as a Cubmaster of Pack 787.
Harold enjoyed his retirement years at Hampton Beach. He and his wife owned and managed rental properties there for many years. There was nothing more that he enjoyed than sitting on his cottage deck, soaking in the sun, while watching beach goers.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Ursula, and his brother Richard (Dick) Miller.
He is survived by his brother-in-law, Maurice Briand, sister-in-law, Joanne Briand; and his sister-in-law, Wendy Miller. Harold truly enjoyed being around the energy of young people. He did not have children of his own but a smile came to his face every time he saw his many nieces and nephews and their children. He treated them with great kindness. He is survived by nieces and nephews, Bruce Briand and his wife Mary Lou, Carol (Briand) Sheil, who he always called Babe, and her husband Martin, Judy Moody, Brenda King, Donald Briand, Larry Briand, Kevin Briand, Scott Miller, Jane Miller, Kathryn Kersey, and Laurie Johnson.
SERVICES: A period of visitation will take place on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 PM for family and close friends. A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at the NH Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
