"1861 census: family was enumerated at Hawkesbury, Ontario, Canada. Gregoire was noted as a laborer, age 29, and living in a log house."
"Gregoire, also known as George, died at the hospital and had been living at Moor's Lake. Witnesses at his burial were Alphonse Duhamel and Napoleon Levie."
"His (Gregoire's) feet were frozen two months earlier and were amputated. I think he may have died from complications. Ontario archives [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien]/90. Informant Rev. J. Poitras."
"The parish record for this couple states that Gregoire is a day worker (journalier), son of Baptiste Dubois and Marie Grandmaison (We know that this woman was Gregoire's grandmother, his mother being Clémence Bernard. Clerks made many errors in this parish and sent me on a wild goose chase for many years) of Hawkesbury (written as Ogsbury), and Angélique was the daughter of Alexis Audet dit Lapointe and Marie-Louise Vilmer. It does not state where the bride's parents were living. Thomas Small and Mary Clerk witnessed. The presiding priest was R. Deleage. It is interesting to note that there is a small town by that name just outside of Maniwaki today."
"This family really moved around. Per the 1861 census, they are living in Hawkesbury Twp. Gregoire was noted as 29 years of age, a laborer, born in Canada West (Ontario). Sophie (Angélique?) was stated as 27 years of age, born in Canada East (Québec). Children were listed as Sophie (aged 5 years), Nicholas (aged 4 years), Eliza (Louisa?)(aged 3 years), Alex (aged 1 year). The children are noted as being born in Canada West (Ontario). It is noted that the family is a single family and lives in a house of log construction. Per the 1871 census, the family is enumerated at Maniwaki, Québec. It is noted that they were all born in Québec. Gregoire was stated as 38 years old, Angélique as 41 years old, Sophie as 17 years old, Nicholas as 14 years old, Louisa as 12 years old, Francis as 10 years old, Gilbert as 7 years old and Alexis as 5 years old. I believe that the Audet dit Lapointe family lived around Maniwaki, Québec. There are many of this surname there today. When the children were baptized, they were taken back to the home town, as it were."
