This describes the life of our son, brother, husband, father, grampie and to all, best friend. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick J. Murray, 99, of Moncton, which occurred at the Moncton Hospital on Saturday, May 4, 2013. Born in Magherafelt, County Derry, Northern Ireland on March 10, 1914, he was the son of the late Patrick and Sarah (Glass) Murray. Pat was hardworking and was employed with CNR for 39 years as a Locomotive Engineer before his retirement in 1979. Besides the railway, Pat had many passions and enjoyed sharing them with his family and friends. His love for horses and horse racing was evident from a young boy. A voracious reader, he was well rounded, book smart and incredibly engaging, in any setting. He was happy when busy and enjoyed gardening, helping others and telling countless stories of his 99 years of life, including his family's trip from Ireland in 1929. His smile shone brightest when he gathered with his family and friends. He was a warm and loving man. He had a kind and gentle spirit and you felt it. He was a gift to us all and we will cherish our time with him always. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Ethel (Trenholm) Murray; his loving sons, Ralph Murray (Kathy Downing) and Gary Murray (Yvonne Cormier); precious grandchildren, Tracy Gass (Andrew), Jennifer and Patrick (Krista); cherished great-grandchildren, Brady, Ryan, Avery and Maverick; brothers, James of Moncton, Jack of Bedford, NS and Joseph (Yvonne) of Fredericton; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Patrick was predeceased by his sisters, Maureen and twin sister, Agnes Murphy. The family would like to thank the nursing staffs of 3600 and 4100 at the Moncton Hospital for the excellent care and compassion given to Patrick during his stay.
Resting at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) with visitation hours on Tuesday from 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Service to be held at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 10:00 am with Rev. Allison Carroll officiating. Reception following the service in the funeral home reception centre. Interment to be held at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.
