Lieu de naissance : New Westminster, Colombie Britannique, Canada
Date de naissance : 27 novembre 1912
Lieu de décès : Vancouver, Colombie Britannique, Canada
Date de décès : 11 janvier 2012
Kendall - Edgar Cardiff died peacefully at the Marion Hospice on January 11 at the age of 99. His family and friends will remember his intelligence, gallantry, and strength. He was born Nov. 27, 1912, in New Westminster, BC, later coming to live in Vancouver.
Ed was predeceased by his beloved and beautiful wife Kay in 1981, two daughters, sweet baby Joan and cherished Gail Bradley (Kendall) and his dear sister Marjorie Kendall Shea. He is survived by daughters Nancy Kendall, Pat Corder (Gale), and Kathy Kendall, grandchildren Kathleen Felicella (Mario), Rachel Bradley, Christie Weigel, Greg Corder, Kelly LaVallie (Dave) and Jessica Gnitt, Jessica's dad John, and great-grandchildren Cas and Ines Felicella, Levi, Lauren, and Alexis Weigel, and Megan, Samantha, Dawson, Jessica, and Sydney Kendall LaVallie, and nephews and a nieces, Scott, Michael, Debbie, and Steven Walker.
Ed met his beloved Kay in Regina during RCAF training and they married before he went overseas, where he flew with the RAF as a navigator with the “Demon Squadron”, number 407, and received the Distinguished Flying Cross for “his great gallantry & exceptional technical ability in the performance of his duty". Post-war, after 6 idyllic years of farming in Metchosin, he joined Canadian Pacific Airlines, soon becoming Chief Navigator, and with Kay and his 4 little girls, began their very full life on Deer Lake in Burnaby. He was one of the earliest Canadian appointments to the fellowship of the Royal Geographic Institute of Navigation for his innovative and brilliant contributions to that science.
His interests were many and varied. He was one of Vancouver’s athletic greats, excelling at rugby and football in his youth, with the Vancouver Athletic Club, and UBC, then later in life as a Masters Tennis champion, winning 11 gold and 4 silver US Tennis Association Championships between 1997 & 2004, in addition to many other Canadian and international wins. He was a lifetime member at Vancouver Lawn Tennis Club. He had a lifelong devotion to sailing and spent many happy days with Kay and family on the “Kathleen”, a 32' sloop which he built himself in our backyard in Burnaby.
Many thanks to the angels at St. Elizabeth’s, Three Bridges, and Marion Hospice for their loving care of our father. We will be forever grateful to you for your kindness and concern. We will miss our Dad, grandfather and great-grandfather, but are happy for him that he is at rest and has peace.
The Memorial Service will take place at St. Mary’s, Kerrisdale, 2490 W. 37th ave., at 2:00pm Thursday Jan. 19th.
