ADAMS, JAMES ALEXANDER
ADAMS, JAMES ALEXANDER
Lieu de naissance : Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de naissance : 30 janvier 1910
Lieu de décès : Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 11 avril 2009
James “Jim†Alexander Adams, 99, of Foxbrook Road, Pictou County, passed away April 11th, 2009, at the Aberdeen Hospital.
Born in Southampton, Cumberland County, January 30th, 1910, he was the eldest son of the late John Robinson and Caroline Amelia (Lepper) Adams.
Upon moving to Pictou County in the early 40’s, dad worked for J.J. Collie and Sons, The Gun Shop and retired in 1975 as shop foreman from the Department of Highways. A mechanic by trade, dad was a true handyman. If something was broken, chances were he could fix it, and if you couldn’t buy the part, dad would make it. He was an avid reader. Woodcarving was his most loved hobby, many beautiful pieces adorned his and family members homes. His happiest moments came from entertaining relatives and friends with tales of times past, the taller the tale, the larger his smile. Residing in Eureka until 1981, dad had been a volunteer with the Eureka Fire Department. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Curren #68, Hopewell, from which he was to receive his 60-year jewel in November. He belonged to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Westville.
Jim is survived by a daughter, Sheila Sperry (Garry LeLiever), Foxbrook; grandchildren: Elizabeth Adams, Ottawa; Eva (John) Henriques, Toronto; Antoine Adams, Toronto; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Hailey Henriques; sisters, Anna MacKenzie and Hilda Adams, both of Southampton; brother, Harold (Queenie), Dartmouth; sister-in-law, Betty Adams, Southampton; daughter-in-law, Therese Adams, Ottawa; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Nellie Elizabeth (Dodge); son, James Robert “Bobâ€; sister, Mary Lowe; brothers: Gerald, Hugh and Cecil.
The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton, from where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday with Rev. Norman Marple and Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. Burial will take place at Heatherdale Memorial Gardens at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, LORDA or to a charity of one’s choice.
